Great Guitar Solos, Part 2

Here in Part 2 of Great Guitar Solos it’s British Invasion time, sort of. One of these solos is actually by an American.

The Cure – Mint Car

From their 1995 record, Wild Mood Swings, here’s “Mint Car.” Here schizoid Robert Smith is happy and plays a melodic and joyful solo. I love the diads he throws in the middle.

The Beatles – Drive My Car

George Harrison plays a fine slide solo.

David Bowie – Let’s Dance

Bowie is credited for giving Stevie Ray Vaughn his big break on his Let’s Dance record. SRV gives us an unforgettable outro solo. SRV also played on “China Girl.”

What are some of your favorite guitar solos?

What are diads? Please teach us Jamsmooth.

@Megan A diad is a 2 note chord. Hendrix used a lot of diads and triads.

Jam, the Rush one is gone. I say listen to Xanadu solo; great; or Big Money for Lifeson. Also you leave out Steve Howe from Yes; genius. AND Neil Young; a master. Shame on you; will leave more responses later; having a bit of insomnia.

Very subjective stuff. I’d have to say if there is one guy who has the best solos it would be Page – I mean in terms of the number of solos that are recognizable. Or maybe Clapton. Or how about Ramblin’ Man? My mom can identify that solo. You leave a lot of ground to cover here.
